Sweetwater Woman Charged With Leaving Son In Stroller At Edge of Driveway

Sweetwater police said they charged a mother for leaving her son in a stroller at the edge of a driveway in the hot sun.

Police said Rhonda Jenkins is charged with child endangerment, child abuse and neglect after leaving what officers said appeared to be a one-year-old boy sleeping in a driveway of a residence on the 800 block of Mayes Avenue July 2.

Investigators said a witness found the boy first.

When an officer arrived on the scene, he woke him up and immediately called 911 after noticing his diaper was soiled and that he had a sunburn from being left alone in the heat.

Authorities said the boy appeared to be very dirty.

Police said dispatch received a call from Jenkins' sister, who told them about Jenkins and that she was at her home.

When officers arrived at Jenkins' home, they took her into custody.

Jenkins was taken to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office and, according to police, is held on a $45,000 bond.

Investigators said the Department of Children Services is investigating and the child is alive and well.
