TSA Finds Loaded Pistol Inside Wheelchair Cushion At McGhee Tyson Airport

TSA finds loaded pistol inside wheelchair cushion at McGhee Tyson Airport

The Transportation Security Administration found a loaded firearm at the McGhee Tyson Airport on Tuesday.

At 10:30 a.m., officials discovered a loaded Smith and Wesson .40 caliber pistol hidden inside a passenger's wheelchair cushion.

Police confiscated the gun and arrested the passenger on a state charge.

“Passengers are responsible for the contents of bags they bring to the checkpoint,” said Mark Howell, TSA Regional Spokesperson. “Our advice is to look through bags thoroughly before coming to the airport to make sure there are no illegal or prohibited items.”

The TSA said this is the 15th firearm discovered at the security checkpoint by TSA officers at McGhee Tyson Airport in 2017. 16 were found in 2016.
