Officials from the Blount County Sheriff's Office confirmed two people died as a result of a house explosion in Maryville Thursday evening.

Deputies from the Blount County Sheriff's Office and responders from the Blount County Fire Department, EMS, and AMR ambulance services responded to the explosion.

Officials from the sheriff's office said the house was destroyed. An investigation is still underway to determine the cause of the blast.

The two victims were described as adults. Officials said they did not know if the two victims were living in the house at the time of the explosion. The Blount County Sheriff's Office said autopsies for the two victims are scheduled for Saturday at the Knox County Regional Forensics Center.

Dispatch said the call came in around 5:42 p.m. The scene was located in the 2800 block of Old White's Mill road in Maryville. Old White's Mill has been shut down between Pleasant Hill and Pineview road. Officials said they did not know how long the stretch of road would be closed.
