Forbes Names UT a Best Employer for Women

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, has been recognized as one of America’s best employers for women by Forbes magazine. UT ranked sixth among businesses with headquarters in Tennessee and ninth among higher education institutions.

“Once again the university has been recognized by Forbes as a great place to work, and that is because our employees are spreading the word about the good things happening here,” said Mary Lucal, associate vice chancellor for human resources. “Our paid parental leave, commitment to equity and inclusion, and strong coworker and departmental relationships distinguish us from other workplaces.”

Forbes partnered with Statista, a market research company, to identify organizations leading the way in supporting women both within and outside their workforces. Data was collected by surveying 50,000 employees—30,000 women and 20,000 men—currently employed at companies with at least 1,000 workers in their US operations. Respondents were asked to rate their employer on criteria such as working conditions, diversity, and how likely they’d be to recommend their employer to others.

Rankings were based on respondents’ evaluations of their own employer and other employers in their industry, along with the percentage of women in executive management and board positions.

Forbes has also recognized UT as of America’s best employers , one of Tennessee’s best employers, and a best employer for new graduates.
