SEVIER COUNTY, Tenn. — As if we needed to another reason to love the Smokies in the springtime, it made a top 10 list of best U.S. destinations to see wildflowers.

According to a study from CarRentals.com, part of the Expedia family, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is the No. 4 in the nation.

The study said the Smokies are almost unmatched in the variety of wildflowers visitors can see, at least 1,500 different kinds.

There is everything from trillium, lady slipper orchids and violets in Spring, and black-eyed Susans make their annual reappearance in Summer, according to the article.

One of the most popular and stunning wildflower displays typically happens on Gregory Bald early in the summer around mid-June, which becomes filled with gorgeous azaleas of many colors. It's a strenuous climb, but the azaleas wait as a reward for those who make it to the top.

The study says the best time to visit is in late April, but all East Tennesseans know the Smokies are beautiful all year round.
