KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- On Friday at 10:33 p.m., Knoxville Police Department Officers Zach Wilson and his trainee, Tyler Harmon, conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that had two male individuals inside. As officers approached the vehicle, police said the passengers got out of the vehicle and began running.

Police said as one passenger was starting to run, he pulled out a rifle and pointed it at Officer Wilson, who pulled his duty weapon and fired two shots at the suspect. The suspect then dropped his rifle.

Police said it did not appear that Officer Wilson struck the suspect with gunfire since the suspect then jumped over a wall and fled on foot.

The officers involved in the incident were uninjured.

The suspects were described as black males, both of unknown age. One was wearing a white hoodie with curly hair, and the other was wearing a gray hoodie.

KPD said the investigation was continuing early Saturday morning. Anyone with information pertaining to the incident was asked to call KPD.
