PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Fee/Hedrick Family Entertainment Group has announced plans to convert the Smoky Mountain Opry into a pirate themed dinner show in 2019.
According to a company press release, a $20 million dollar renovation will change the outside of the building with the pirate theme as well as renovations to the inside the building. Construction is set to start in November of 2018 if the city commission gives the approval.
The show will include a retractable water stage that will be the largest in the Southeast. The show will feature moving ships complete with brand new technology
“We’ve enlisted the help of the best technological experts in the world to help with innovative thematic and production elements,”said David Fee, president and chief executive officer of Fee/Hedrick Family Entertainment Group.
“Our writing team has worked on projects for Broadway shows as well as Disney and Universal productions. This show will be like no other in existence.”
The Smoky Mountain Opry show plans to move to a new location, but where has not been announced. “Magic Beyond Belief” starring Darren Romeo will move across the street from “The Hatfield and McCoy Dinner Feud” to its own stand-alone theater and will open in March 2019.
The new dinner attraction is scheduled to open in Summer of 2019.
