GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Crews will be out performing road striping operations in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park beginning Monday, April 30, through Friday, May 18, park officials said Wednesday.

Striping locations include

  • Newfound Gap Road between Newfound Gap and Gatlinburg;
  • Little River Road between Park Headquarters and Metcalf Bottoms;
  • Sugarlands Visitor Center;
  • Oconaluftee Visitor Center;
  • Clingmans Dome Parking Area;
  • Cataloochee Entrance Road;
  • Foothills Parkway West.

Park officials said the pavement marking process would be performed primarily during daylight hours, though crews may have to work into the night as necessary.

Motorists should expect single-lane closures and some traffic delays as a result of the work, and weather delays due to rain or cold temperatures could cause the work to go beyond May 18.

Officials said drivers should use caution when encountering crews during this process, and they should pay close attention to traffic control devices that will be located along the roadway.

Work will not happen on Fridays after noon or during the weekend, officials said.
