TEDx Talk by POL TN State Champion Kendall Grimes

Kendall Grimes, 2022 POL Tennessee State Champion and National Finalist, gave a TEDx talk and discussed the power of words and her experiences with Poetry Out Loud.

She said, ”In every single poem, I see a different part of myself, and I think a lot of people might be able to see that too.”
We agree that this is a significant part of the power of poetry as well–take some time to watch!

“For several years, this short stanza of poetry has helped me through the most difficult times. When I hear these lines, I’m not only reminded to be kind, empathetic, and true to others, but to be kind and true to myself.”

Kendall’s experience with poetry recitation taught her the benefits of listening for the shared experiences, looking for the space between the words and how words can cast a spell. Kendall Grimes, the two-time state champion for spoken word poetry, was a national semi-finalist at the 2019 Poetry Out Loud competition. She most recently won the 2022 state competition. A Senior at Battle Ground Academy, she will attend Yale in the fall.

”In every single poem, I see a different part of myself, and I think a lot of people might be able to see that too.”
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
