Wonders Await in Gatlinburg this Spring
Gatlinburg, Tennessee - Spring is blooming in the Smokies and Gatlinburg flourishes with can’t-be-missed festivals and spring activities. For families and friends, there is something for everyone during Gatlinburg Smoky Mountain Spring.
Gatlinburg is launching a NEW family-friendly St. Patrick’s Day Celebration March 17-20. For four festive days, town will be decorated shamrock green with traditional Celtic music floating through the air. Smoky Mountain Tunes and Tales cast will be on the streets performing toe-tapping Irish jigs and reels nightly from 5 to 9 p.m. Local restaurants and businesses will be offering everything from live music, traditional Irish fare and themed drinks to green pancakes and shaved ice! The week will be topped off with a special Fireworks Show from the top of the Space Needle at 10 p.m. on Friday, March 19.
Discover a truly unique shopping experience during Great Smoky Easter Arts and Crafts Show. With everything from handcrafted jewelry, to paintings to pottery, shoppers will find a myriad of unique products and gifts created by members of Great Smoky Arts & Crafts Community at this free-to-attend craft event. Located in the Gatlinburg Convention Center, artisans will be on hand to demonstrate their skills, answer questions and offer their one-of-a-kind pieces from Thursday through Saturday, April 1-3.
Anakeesta will be in full bloom this spring as they launch ‘Blooms and Tunes.” Beginning April 2 - May 23, look for grand and colorful nature-themed art installations displayed throughout the park including a 20’ long blooming daisy. Live music and a new spring-themed menu at their four restaurants will bring a spring to any visitor’s steps.
Spring is the perfect time for a challenging road race. When the sun goes down on Friday, April 23, runners and walkers can get set for a fun nighttime jog through downtown Gatlinburg during the Running with the Bears 5K Run/Walk. Hosted by the Gatlinburg Chamber of Commerce Foundation to benefit local students with educational scholarships.
“Hands on Gatlinburg” has become a perennial favorite with craft lovers who want to learn a new skill. From May 1-3, studios in the Great Smoky Arts and Crafts Community offer do-it-yourself style classes where guests can begin a creative journey in a medium of their choosing. Painting to woodworking, basket weaving and jewelry making, are just a few of the affordable, half-day workshops offered over the course of the weekend. Beginners are welcome. Register in advance before the workshops sell out.
Ober Gatlinburg will celebrate the arrival of spring Bavarian style during MayFest, May 21-31. The traditional German celebration of spring will be filled with displays of history, culture and the traditional German food and drink.
The Ober Uphill 5K on May 22 is not for the faint of heart. Whether you choose to walk or run, this 3.2 mile race up Ski Mountain Rd. has an elevation gain of 1,500 feet which makes finishing this race a true accomplishment. Checkout the Ober Gatlinburg website for registration information.
