WASHINGTON D.C. – Rep. Phil Roe, M.D. (R-Tenn.) released the following statement after President Trump’s State of the Union address:
“President Trump once again delivered an optimistic State of the Union address and it was a privilege to attend. Our country is making great progress under his leadership with the strongest economy of my lifetime. President Trump is improving the VA, rebuilding our military after years of neglect, and putting America first in our trade deals. The president’s policies are creating positive change for families across the U.S., and I look forward to working with him in 2020 to help achieve his goals on behalf of a grateful nation.
“Despite House Democrats singular focus on impeachment, the president focused on an agenda that will improve the lives of Americans everywhere. I hope Democrats can move past this impasse and work with the President and Republicans on legislating on behalf of our constituents. One of the priorities the president highlighted was to end surprise medical billing. I couldn’t agree with the president more on the need to eliminate these stress-inducing bills, and hope we can work together to get legislation that protects patients and is fair to all sides.
“I am glad President Trump emphasized the importance of protecting the safety of Americans at home and abroad. Whether it is focusing on tensions abroad with Iran or trying to secure our own borders, national security is one of the president’s top priorities. We are a sovereign nation with borders and we need to enforce our immigration laws and make commonsense reforms to the system, such as preventing sanctuary cities that protect criminal aliens who flaunt our immigration laws. I hope my Democrat colleagues will set aside their political messaging to protect our communities and stand up for the rule of law.
“From day one, President Trump has worked to deliver on the promises he made to the American people. I look forward to working with the president to achieve the great vision he has for our nation.”
