Federal employees in Tennessee, as well as Tennessee State Government employees whose jobs were impacted due to the temporary federal government shutdown, may file for Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits beginning on the first day of the shutdown.
In general, if you are unemployed through no fault of your own and are available to work, you may be eligible to receive UI benefits, provided you meet all other eligibility requirements. This could include federal and state employees furloughed due to the shutdown.
You can review the eligibility requirements to receive UI benefits in Tennessee here .
Important: Furloughed federal workers filing for UI benefits due to a separation because of the shutdown should enter their wages when prompted. This will help expedite the claim's processing.
If you are a federal employee who continues to work but is not being paid, you are not eligible for UI benefits.
When the federal government reopens, if Congress authorizes back pay, claimants will be required to repay the State of Tennessee for any UI benefits received during the furlough.
